Short Abstract
Few industries have as much risk embedded in the discovery and development of its products as the Pharma & Biotech industry, yet the analysis and management of risk remain largely contentious issues. Although the history across all therapeutic areas has demonstrated that the chances of success in moving from one phase of development to another do not favor the developer, we continue to believe that we can ‘beat the odds’ by one strategy or another. If this were the case, the industry would surely not be bemoaning the paucity of riches in many of its drug discovery and development pipelines and the general future of the industry would be more upbeat than several pundits have prognosticated. So, how can a better understanding of risk analysis and risk management aid the Pharma and Biotech industry?
