Dr. Annette Gerritsen is an epidemiologist, professionally trained in epidemiology in The Netherlands (MSc Biomedical Health Sciences, major in epidemiology, Radboud University of Nijmegen). She obtained my PhD from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, reporting on a randomized controlled clinical trial on the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. After her PhD she has been involved in research studies focusing on the health and health care use of refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants in the Netherlands. In 2007 she moved to South Africa to work as a senior lecturer in epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of Venda, Thohoyandou where she was teaching and involved in a project on the malaria incidence in Limpopo province. She has a series of publications in highly regarded international peer-reviewed journals. In 2008 she founded Epi Result, a company specialised in assisting clients with designing epidemiological studies, analysing data from these studies as well as the reporting on these studies. Her main focus is methodology and she works in both communicable and non-communicable diseases areas. In addition she gives courses in epidemiology and research methodology.
